- Perform test restores of data from backup tapes/media. (Logs are not always correct)
- Even if backup logs are successful the logs still need to be periodically reviewed to be sure the CORRECT data is getting onto the tape. (The most overlooked examples of this are Email, Email Contacts and My Documents directories.)
- Verify appropriateness of tape rotation and off-site location with main Backup Operator.
- Update software not part of automated software update schedules (IE: Microsoft WINDOWS can be set to update automatically. Microsoft OFFICE, by default, cannot.)
- Check Event Viewer Logs in Windows XP, 2000, and 2003 for advanced notice of potential hard drive failures.
- Organize software and licenses and notify customers of locations and discrepancies.
- Run disk utilities to maximize performance.
- Test the internet connection speed – this can help us identify if the connection is being abused.
- Remove temporary files.
- Prepare/Update Visio Diagrams of network.
- Prepare/Update network documentation including passwords for severs and firewalls.
- Update Emergency Repair Disks on servers.
- Check the antivirus logs for the server and all workstations
- Verify virus signature is up-to-date
- Fix any simple problems
- Plan with the customer to fix major problems
- Check Disk Space on mission critical computers.
